Of all the things that the Wizarding World has given us, one of the most memorable and delicious is BUTTERBEER! There’s a variation of Butterbeer for everyone; hot, cold, frozen, fudge, ice cream, and potted cream (like custard), and even non-dairy versions of the cold and frozen.
Let’s discuss a bit about the history of Butterbeer. In 2010 Hogsmeade opened at Islands of Adventure at the Universal Orlando Resort and Butterbeer was originally only offered in two types, cold and frozen. It became an instant hit for Universal, but these would remain the only variations for several more years. In January 2014 Universal decided to see how a limited release of hot Butterbeer would do, again it was an instant hit, but it wouldn’t be added permanently yet.
When Diagon Alley opened in July 2014 at Universal Studios Florida the ice cream version of Butterbeer was released. It quickly became a fan favorite! Still in 2014, Universal rereleased hot Butterbeer in November for the holiday season. It would wind up becoming a winter seasonal offering until it became permanent in May of 2021.
In the very end of 2014 Butterbeer potted cream was introduced and in January 2015 Butterbeer fudge became available! Since then, the biggest advance that’s been made with Butterbeer is the release of a vegan, non-dairy version so even those with a food preference or lactose issue can enjoy this delicious beverage!
